We're about to have our first child Lord willing within the next few weeks so it has me thinking about some baby things on the next level. For example, the split pants of China. I don't know if these are unique to China, but they are abundant here. Here's the concept: babies poop and pee a lot so just cut a hole in their pants so you don't waste time and money on diapers. There are some gross things about split pants we could discuss (see bottom picture and don't step in any puddles when visiting), but there are also many positives to be explored so let us spend our time focusing there. 1. Little butts are everywhere! Look at the picture to the right of that kid sitting on a rock and you can't tell me that doesn't make you smile and laugh a little. Without split pants, these funny little moments are not readily available. |
3. If diaper rash really is caused by babies wearing diapers, then there is another problem solved with the eradication of the diaper! Also, rash cream and baby powder may be relatively small expenses, but I don't see much of that stuff for sale around here and I think we know why.
I'm not saying I'm sold on split pants. They aren't for everyone or everywhere. However, I think it best if we don't throw the baby out with the bath water when it comes to split pants. After all, the often misquoted and misapplied Matthew 7:1 says, "Do not judge, or you too will be judged." I would hate to judge split pants before we even give them a try...or we could just not give them a try and embrace the cultural difference in a different way.
What do you think? Can you think of other positives of split pants?
